Forgotten Mutinies of India’s Freedom Struggle [hardcover] DR. Shrankhala H.Das
Hisorical, History, Indian HistoryForgotten Mutinies of India’s Freedom Struggle [hardcover] DR. Shrankhala H.Das
India’s fight for independence is often associated with landmark events like the 1857 Revolt, the Non-Cooperation Movement, and the Quit India Movement. However, scattered across the country’s long and tumultuous history are lesser-known mutinies—acts of defiance that, though overshadowed by larger uprisings, played a crucial role in shaping the freedom struggle. In Forgotten Mutinies of India’s Freedom Struggle, Dr. Sharnkhala H. Das brings to light these hidden chapters of resistance, narrating the stories of unsung heroes, rebellious battalions, and grassroots revolts that challenged colonial rule. Drawing from historical records, letters, and firsthand accounts, the book uncovers incidents that were either overlooked or deliberately erased from mainstream history. This meticulously researched work takes readers on a journey across different regions, from the early revolts of the 18th century to localized military uprisings, tribal rebellions, and spontaneous civilian protests that defied British authority. Through compelling storytelling and sharp analysis, Dr. Das offers a fresh perspective on India’s struggle for independence, emphasizing that no act of resistance—no matter how small—was insignificant in the fight for freedom. Forgotten Mutinies of India’s Freedom Struggle is an essential read for history enthusiasts, researchers, and anyone eager to rediscover the hidden voices of India’s past.

It Can’t Happen Here
“The novel that foreshadowed Donald Trump’s authoritarian appeal.”—SalonIt Can’t Happen Here is the only one of Sinclair Lewis’s later novels to match the power of Main Street, Babbitt, and Arrowsmith. A cautionary tale about the fragility of democracy, it is an alarming, eerily timeless look at how fascism could take hold in America. Written during the Great Depression, when the country was largely oblivious to Hitler’s aggression, it juxtaposes sharp political satire with the chillingly realistic rise of a president who becomes a dictator to save the nation from welfare cheats, sex, crime, and a liberal press. Called “a message to thinking Americans” by the Springfield Republican when it was published in 1935, It Can’t Happen Here is a shockingly prescient novel that remains as fresh and contemporary as today’s news. With an Introduction by Michael Meyer and an Afterword by Gary Scharnhorst
