The Wisdom of Ananda Coomaraswamy [hardcover] by S.Durai Raja Singam
Hinduism, Religion & SpiritualityThe Wisdom of Ananda Coomaraswamy [hardcover] by S.Durai Raja Singam
Ananda Kentish Coomaraswamy (1947-76) was one of the best minds that India has produced in the twentieth century. Son of a Samil father and an English mother, his life was a living example of building bridges between Eastern and Western cultures. By profession an art critic and a museum curator. Ananda L Coomaraswamy was also a masterful exponent of metaphysics. As much at home with Plato. Aristotle and Aquinas as with Shankara and the other Vedic commentators. Familiar with the Scriptures of all the main religions and proficient in many languages. He used to teach metaphysical principles by explaining the symbolism of traditional works. In his writings, Coomaraswamy never displays his vast knowledge for the sake of mere erudition but rather uses his amazing scholarship for a well-crafted plan: to show that below the endless variety of art forms and traditional beliefs, a common thread runs deep – the acceptance of the sacred as the ultimate means to validate the multiplicity of everyday experience. This book is a compilation of quotations from his works and letters, and it constitutes a good introduction to his thought. His theories are here applied to concrete situations, related to the problems of modern India and could still suggest a third way to avoid both the traps of modern technocracy and the temptation of fundamentalism. It should not surprise us that his views are still relevant to the present situation: his opinions are rooted in truths that are neither political nor historical nor ideological, nor simply religious, nor even merely intellectual. They are rather related to that inner wisdom that embraces, without crushing it, all the distinctiveness of human experience.

The Complete Works of Bal Gangadhar Tilak (Box Set of 4 Books) [hardcover] Bal Gangadhar Tilak
Hinduism, Religion, Religion & SpiritualityThe Complete Works of Bal Gangadhar Tilak (Box Set of 4 Books) [hardcover] Bal Gangadhar Tilak
It is based on the origin of Aryanik People by Indian nationalist, teacher, and independence activist Bal Gangadhar Tilak. It propounded the idea that the North Pole was the original home of Aryans during the pre-glacial period which they had to leave due to the ice deluge around 8000 B.C. and had to migrate to the Northern parts of Europe and Asia in search of lands for new settlements. In support of his theory, Tilak presented certain Vedic hymns, Avestic passages, Vedic chronology and Vedic calendars with interpretations of the contents in detail. The Orion, or Researches into the Antiquity of the Vedas, is a pioneering work by Bal Gangadhar Tilak that explores the ancient origins of Vedic literature through astronomical references. Tilak based his conclusions on the mention of specific constellations, such as Orion (Mrigashirsha), and their positions as observed in the Vedic texts. By aligning this astronomical data with modern calculations, he proposed that the Vedic civilization thrived in a much earlier epoch, challenging established chronologies. This groundbreaking work not only showcased Tilak’s scholarly acumen. This beautiful edition, contains the essence of the Vedas and the Upanishads ad is a sure guide of the way to perfect happiness, here as well as hereafter. It preaches the threefold way of knowledge, Action and Devotion, leading to the highest good of mankind. This book is a golden embossed edition of the classic and is suitable for festive gifting as well as keeping in one’s library. Its soft matt finish and embossed gold give it a rich look topped up with enriching content. Karma Yoga Shastra, as expounded by Bal Gangadhar Tilak in his seminal work Gita Rahasya, emphasizes the philosophy of selfless action rooted in the Bhagavad Gita. He argued that true liberation (moksha) can be achieved by dedicating one’s actions to the greater good, without attachment to the fruits of those actions. This philosophy of Karma Yoga, or the “discipline of action,” aligns with Tilak’s vision of social responsibility, where every individual contributes selflessly to society while maintaining inner spiritual discipline.

The Arctic Home in The Vedas & The Orion (Set of 2 Books) [hardcover] Bal Gangadhar Tilak
Hindu, Hinduism, Religion, Religion & Philosophy, Religion & SpiritualityThe Arctic Home in The Vedas & The Orion (Set of 2 Books) [hardcover] Bal Gangadhar Tilak
Bal Gangadhar Tilak, often referred to as the “Father of Indian Unrest,” was a visionary scholar, freedom fighter, and social reformer who played a pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence. Beyond his political activism, Tilak was a profound thinker deeply interested in Indian culture, history, and ancient texts. The Arctic Home in the Vedas is a fascinating exploration of the idea that the original home of the Aryans, as described in the Vedas, was in the Arctic region during a prehistoric period when the climate was suitable for human habitation. Tilak used astronomical references in Vedic hymns to propose this bold theory, blending mythology with scientific inquiry. In Orion: Researches into the Antiquity of the Vedas, Tilak delved into Vedic chronology, employing celestial alignments mentioned in the Rigveda to determine the age of these ancient scriptures. Together, these books showcase Tilak’s pioneering efforts to bridge Indian traditions with modern science, offering a fresh perspective on the origins and evolution of Indian culture.
