Reading in Punjabi Literature: A Post Modern Critique by Jaspal Singh (Hardback)
- Page : 424
- ISBN : 978-8182476110
- Dimensions : 25 x 19 x 3 cm
Punjabi literature in the last about one century has had a phenomenal development both in quantity and quality. It underwent a number of twists and turns but the most sustainable has been ‘progressivism’ of sorts which still inspires most of the Punjabi writers. There have been a few literary experiments also since the second half of the 20th century mostly under the influence of Western writers yet Punjabi cultural flavour remained the dominant motive force even among the scores of Punjabi writers settled abroad in the Western countries. The present book is a unique experiment in itself. It is a kind of running commentary in English on the state of Punjabi literature in the last about three decades. As encouraged by Mr. T.K. Ramasamy my friend and Associate Editor many of these hundred and fifty four pieces appeared in The Tribune, Chandigarh almost regularly since the nineties of the last century. Some others have appeared in the South Asia Post, an online fortnightly edited by my friend Gobind Thukral with which I was associated as an associate editor for about fifteen years. I owe them sincere gratitude.

- ISBN : 978-8182470026
- Dimensions : 28 x 22 x 1.3 cm
Evolution of costumes and textile began the day Eve strategically covered herself with the first fig leaf. History testifies that man has been inventing and creating costumes through the ages reflecting the influence of changing times, social life, work style and even seasons. Reciprocal cultural exchanges had affected the remotest tribal belts and the meanest hamlest as far as costumes are concerned. However, very little of the old textile exist these days. Textile have been produced in India since times immemorial. Our craftsman had produced textiles of rare quality and costumes of stunning variety which compete with the best in the world at any given period of history. India being a vast sub continent of stroangly constrasting physical features, cultural affinities, political history, religious beliefs and climatic conditions presents a great platform for the flight of imagination to the costume designers.

The different processes are class ified as much as possible, and directions for dyeing occupy the first part of the book, while cleaning and re-dyeing are treated afterward. Some recipes do not admit of exact classification, and some are ap plicable to more than one class of materials; but it is hoped that by a frequent use of the index, which it has been the intention to make fairly complete, the user of the book will be able to find what he needs.

Anna Karenina (An Original Classic) by Leo Tolstoy (Hardback)
- Page : 1024
- ISBN : 978-8182478657
- Dimensions : 22.5 x 14.5 x 6.7 cm
Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina was first published in serial instalments from 1873 to 1877 in the periodical The Russian Messenger. A canvas exploring a diverse array of themes matrimony, politics, philosophy, altruism, adultery, religion and death, it is a masterpiece in realist fiction. Anna Karenina, a married aristocrat and socialite from St. Petersburg, falls in love with Count Vronsky, a suave military officer. Hemmed in by the laws of the Russian Orthodox Church, Anna is indecisive and anxious about leaving her husband and starting a new life with Vronsky. A social outcast, Anna is a voracious reader and detests fakery that she feels her husband epitomizes. Unfortunately, with her growing suspicion of Vronsky’ s fidelity, her affair brings her more misery than joy. Eventually, her paranoia leads her to taking her own life. ‘Flawless as a work of art’ is how Fyodor Dostoyevsky described Anna Karenina.
