The Alchemist By Ben Jonson (Hardcover)
The Alchemist is considered Jonson’s best and most characteristic comedy. It was first performed in 1610 by King’s Men. Samuel Taylor Coleridge, a great romantic poet, claimed that it had one of the three most perfect plots in literature. The play’s clever fulfillment of the classical unities and vivi depiction of human folly have made it one of the few Renaissance plays barring the works of Shakespeare, with continuing performances on stage, except for a period of neglect during the Victorian era. The play concerns a wily servant, Face, who develops a scheme to make money while his master is away in the countryside. He gives access to his master’s house to a charlatan named Subtle and a prostitute named Doll. Subtle disguises himself as an alchemist, with Face as his servant; Doll disguises herself as a zealous Puritan. Together, the three of them gull and cheat an assortment of foolish clients. By the end of the play, ‘the alchemist’, Lovewit returns to find his house in moral disarray. Jonson ends the play with Jeremy begging the audience for forgiveness. The Alchemist presents us with a satirical window through which we can see the way in which alchemy was perceived in the opening decade of the 17th century.

Coming soon, Travel LiteratureThe Gates Of India; Being A Historical Narrative By colonel Sir Thomas Holdich (Hardcover)
As the world grows older and its composition both physical and human becomes subject to ever- increasing scientific investigation, the close interdependence of its history and its geography becomes more and more definite. It is hardly too much to say that geography has so far shaped history that in unravelling some of the more obscure entanglements of historical record, we may safely appeal to our modern knowledge of the physical environment of the scene of action to decide on the actual course of events. Oriental scholars for many years past have been deeply interested in reshaping the map of Asia to suit their theories of the sequence of historical action in India and on its frontiers.

The Gods Of Mars By Edgar Rice Burroughs (Hardcover)
The Gods of Mars’ is a science fantasy novel by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs and it was printed in a complete book form in 1918. The main characters in this novel are John Carter and Carter’s wife Dejan Thoris. After the long deportation on Earth, John Carter returned to his beloved Mars. But Dejan Thoris, the woman he loved, had disappeared. Now he was confined in the famous Eden of Mars. This book also holds most probably the first-ever epic air battle between flying battleships. The Black Men of Mars are aggressive democrats who eat the white men and kidnap white women to turn into slaves. They worship an old bat who calls herself the Goddess Issus. John Carter narrates the Black Men as having characteristics that are handsome in the extreme and says their bodies are spiritual. John Carter makes two new friends, Thusia the Red Maid, who likes him so much she wants to be his slaves and Xodar the Black Pirate who is pure awesomeness and the best character. Most of the first three quarters of this book are one exhausting battle scene after another or the capture of the protoganìst and his friends and their escaping. They battle, they are captured, and escape several times. In the last quarter they do escape and their captivity again. The ending is another big battle.
